Natural?  Lab-Created?  Simulated?

Lab-Created Emerald, Tanzanite, Ruby and Sapphire

When it comes to buying gemstones some of the questions are—Should I get a natural stone?  What is the difference between lab-created and simulated?  What about cost?  Let’s see if I can help.  When you purchase a gemstone from Gems-is-Me, you can be assured that the stone is a natural stone unless clearly stated in the title.

First, natural stones.  To be called a “natural” gemstone, the stone must be a natural, mined stone.  It can, however, be treated or heated.  Many gemstones are enhanced to bring out the natural beauty of the stone.  A prime example of this is Tanzanites.  They are plain gray stones when they come out of the mine but change to a beautiful  color when heated.  Most sapphires are also heated.  Some, like Blue Topaz, can be irradiated.  These treatments do not take away from the natural status of the stone and are accepted treatments.  In many instances, necessary.

Lab-Created.  Lab created gems are just that, gemstones created in a lab.  They should have the exact mineral compositions as natural stones.  A prime difference is that they do not have the inclusions that most natural stones have.  Also, their color is usually the perfect color for that gemstone.  That makes them very desirable.  It is often said that if an emerald or ruby is perfect it must be lab-created.  Lab-creation is not an inexpensive process.  Therefore, even though these stones are less expensive than mined stones they can still be a considerable investment.

Simulated.  These are the gemstones often used in inexpensive jewelry.  They are usually dyed.  At Gems-is-Me, we do not use simulated stones except in mother’s rings.

So which is best for you?  The choice should be based on your budget and your personal preferences.

Beautiful Mother's Jewelry

Finally an easy way to shop and choose a Mother’s Ring, Pendant or Brooch.  You will find hundreds of pieces, all available in either yellow or white gold.  Each has a “stone map” so that you can let me know exactly what stones go where.  The result is a piece of jewelry which is designed especially for that special someone.

Look, enjoy, and think of that special Mother, Wife or Grandmother who would love to have one of these beautiful pieces.

Choose the stone you want in the setting you like.

Found the perfect setting but the gemstone is not the one you want?  In many cases, I can set a different stone in the setting and/or change the gold color.  Just call or email me with your request.  I will get back to you with the information on feasibility and price.

This works well also with engagement ring settings.  Many brides now prefer a gemstone instead of a center diamond.  No problem.  You can have a unique ring set.

Thanks for looking,

Danielle
